Also known as the “non-surgical facelift” and the “non-surgical blepharoplasty”, the NeoGen procedure is in a class of its own. The technology has been used in the UK and just recently in the US. In New England we are the third MedSpa to offer this treatment.
What is it??
NeoGen PSR stands for “Plasma Skin Rejuvenation” and works by converting inert nitrogen gas into plasma energy. This energy is delivered by a handpiece and heats up the dermal (deeper layer of the skin) to create controlled damage- prompting your body to repair the skin by producing collagen. Within a week you will experience skin tightening, smaller pores size, equilibrium of your moisture barrier (if your skin is oily it will be less oily and if your skin is dry it will be less dry), diminished hyperpigmentation. The real magic happens over the course of 90 days when your body has produced more collagen in the dermal layer of skin. This is when you see the lifting of the skin- reduction of marionette lines, tightening of the jawline, reduction of nasolabial folds and a 30% reduction in upper eyelid sagging.
What can I expect during the treatment?
The procedure takes about an hour which includes 20min of topical numbing application. It is less painful than most laser treatments but you can expect to feel a fleeting burning sensation as the pulses penetrate the skin. In my opinion it feels like a hot match touches your skin for a second. The pain is gone immediately and there is no post procedural pain. You can expect to be red and sometimes swollen for 24-48 hours and then the redness fades over the course of a week. There may be very minor skin peeling but many people don’t peel at all.
The plasma energy is attracted to the water in your skin so we ask patients to increase fluid consumption the week prior to the procedure. We also offer an IV fluid add on pre-treatment for an additional cost.
Post procedure we insist you apply a hydrating treatment and then a barrier ointment (both provided to you) several times a day for 3- 5 days while your skin is healing.
Your treatment is customized based on your skin tone, texture and laxity. Some people need only a single treatment on high energy but others may require 2-3 treatments on low energy or a mixture of high and low. This is why it is important to know and trust your clinician and their level of medical training. The outcomes for both scenarios are the same and results can last 1-2 years.
